Special Meeting – August 19, 2014

A special meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Homer held on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, in the board room of the Town Hall building was called to order by Supervisor Frederick J. Forbes at 9:05 a.m.

                Stephen Franco, Bailey Place Insurance

                Jessica Berlew, Bailey Place Insurance

Stephen Franco, President of Bailey Place Insurance, and Jessica Berlew, Account Manager, presented a quote for the Town’s liability insurance from Selective Insurance that included the same coverage as the current First Niagara Risk Management policy along with an increase in building limits for the Town’s two municipal buildings. Franco and Berlew described the various aspects of the policy including auto, crime and public officials’ liability insurance. 


On motion by Councilman Williams, seconded by Councilman Young and carried unanimously,  it was resolved to enter into an executive session at 9:15 a.m. to discuss contract negotiations with the Bailey Place Agency and First Niagara Risk Management.

On motion by Councilman Warren, seconded by Councilman Weddle and carried unanimously, the executive session was adjourned and the special meeting reconvened at 9:25 a.m.

On motion by Councilman Warren, seconded by Councilman Williams and carried unanimously: 

RESOLVED: that the Town Board hereby agrees to accept the proposal for liability insurance from Bailey Place Agency of Cortland in the amount of $26,881.64, excluding the coverage for terrorism, for the policy period of August 21st, 2014 to August 21st, 2015, and to end the current liability coverage with First Niagara Risk Management of Syracuse.

Due to the change in the time period covered, the Town Board agreed to pay for coverage on a quarterly basis.

Supervisor Forbes thanked Councilman Williams for all his hard work to examine the current policy and to obtain an alternative quote.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:35 a.m.
